| THE
BIGGEST WINNER WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE
BY PAUL MCGARIGAL “THE REAL ESTATE COACH”
Orlando,
FL – January 10, 2008 – Most people have seen
or heard about the hit television show “The Biggest
Loser” where contestants compete against one another
to see who can lose the largest percentage of weight during
the shows season. It’s amazing to see the contestants’
bodies transform during the show. The results are truly unbelievable.
Paul
McGarigal “The Real Estate Coach” and Board Chair
of the Dr. Phillips YMCA, has brought his version of the show
to Southwest Orlando by creating The Biggest Winner
Weight Loss Challenge. Beginning February 1,
2008 southwest Orlando residents can enter the contest and
the Biggest Winner will win a cruise vacation for two. Two
cruise vacations will be awarded. One cruise will be awarded
for the adult winner and one for the student winner. Winners
will be determined by the largest percentage of weight lost
during the challenge.
When
asked why he was promoting The Biggest Winner
Weight Loss Challenge. Mr. McGarigal said, “After
my wife Karen passed away four years ago, I ballooned up to
300 pounds and in February of 2007, I found myself in the
hospital with three arteries 95% blocked. That led to three
stents being inserted to help open up the arteries. It made
me think about how much I wanted to make sure I would be around
to see my two sons go through high school then college and
hopefully get married and have children so I could enjoy being
a grandparent. Other than my own benefit, I wanted to help
motivate adults and children in Southwest Orlando to start
taking better care of them selves by eating better and exercising.
This is important because childhood and adult obesity has
become an epidemic in our country.”
Obesity
is increasing rapidly in the United States, affecting adults
and children and people of all races, ethnicities, and income
levels. This raises concern because of the implications for
Americans’ health. Being overweight or obese increases
the risk of many diseases and health conditions, including
the following:
•
Hypertension
• Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol
or high levels of triglycerides)
• Type 2 diabetes
• Coronary heart disease
• Stroke
• Gallbladder disease
• Osteoarthritis
• Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
• Some cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
Anyone
13 years or older can enter The Biggest Winner
Weight Loss Challenge by going to the Dr. Phillips
YMCA for an official weigh in beginning on February 1, 2008.
